Chemistry Equipment Flashcards
Test tube rack
Test tube racks are for holding and organizing test tubes.
Clay Triangle
Used as support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a Bunsen burner.
Funnel
Used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another.
Erlenmeyer flask
Used to hold solids that may release gasses during a reaction or that are likely to splatter when stirred or heated.
A graduated cylinder
Used to measure volumes of liquid.
Ringstands
They are a safe and convenient way to perform reactions that require heating using a Bunsen burner.
Forceps
Or tweezers are used to pick up small objects.
Test tube holder
It is useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle.
Evaporating dish
Used for the heating of stable solid compounds and elements.
Beaker tongs
They are used to move beakers containing hot liquids.
Glass stir rod
To manually stir liquids, or transfer drops of liquids into a solution.
Glass plates
Provide a surface for semi-micro experiments like drop reactions and testing of acids and bases
Florence flask
Rarely used in first-year chemistry, It is used for the mixing of chemicals.
Crucible tongs
Used for handling hot crucibles and other hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers
Wire Gauze
It sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker.
Utility clamps
Used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ring stands.
Weighing boat
Used to weigh solids That will be transferred to another vessel.
Beaker
Beakers hold solids and liquids that will not release gas when reacted or are likely to splatter when stirred or heated.
Mohr pipet
Measures and delivers exact volumes of liquids.
Watch glass
Used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction.
Crucible
used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to very high temperatures
Wash bottle
It has a little spout that delivers a wash solution to a specific area. Distilled water id the only liquid that should be used in a wash bottle.
Iron ring
They connect to a ring stand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.
Dropper
A medicine dropper is used to transfer a small volume of liquid. (Less than one mL)
Test tube
Used for holding liquids
Bunsen burner
Used for heating nonvolatile liquids.
Test tube brushes
Used for cleaning test tubes and graduated cylinders. Forcing a big brush into a small test tube will often break the tube.
Spatulas
Spatulas are used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers. Chemicals should never be transferred with your own hands
