Chemistry Basics Flashcards
Atoms and basics
What are hadrons?
The hadrons is the heaviest parts of the atom. They are affected by strong interaction between quarks, which are joined by gluon
Parts of a Hadron
Proton & Neutron
Of what is a proton made?
2 quarks up and one quarks down
Of what is a neutron made?
1 quark up and 2 quark down
What are leptons?
Are the light part of the atom. For example electrons
What represents the atomic number (Z)?
The number of protons
How can we calculate the atomic mass (A)?
of protons + # of neutrons
What represents groups or columns in the periodic table?
The number of valence electrons in the atoms
What represents periods or rows in the periodic table?
The number of orbits an atom has
How many electron shells are?
7
K/L/M/N/O/P/Q
What is a cation?
Is a positiviely charged atom because it loses electrons
What is a anion?
Is a negatively charged atom because it gains electrons
What are isotopes?
Are the atoms of the same element that have different amount of neutrons, so the atomic mass change
What is the electronic configuration of Potassium (Z=19)
