Chemistry Flashcards
What is the material’s ability to stay chemically unchanged in an environment?
A. Persistence
B. Volatility
C. Vapor Pressure
D. Viscosity
A. Persistence
What is the ease of a liquid becoming a vapor?
Volatility
What are the 3 parts of the Atom?
Proton, Neutron, Electron
What type of chemical bond involves two non metals and produces a non salt. The two element share an electron.
Covalent Bonding
What type of chemical bonding involves a metal and a non metal to make a salt. The two products are held together by differential charges.
Ionic bonding
What are the families of hydrocarbons?
Saturated, non saturated, aromatics, halogenated
What is the difference between saturated and non saturated hydrocarbons?
Saturated - has 2x Hydrogen Atoms plus 2 compared to Carbon atoms
Non Saturated - not as many Hydrogen Atoms compared to Carbon atoms and have multiple bonds; eg: Alkenes and Alkynes
What is LD50?
Lethal dose to kill 50% of test population by means of ingestion, absorption, injection
What is LC50?
Lethal concentration dose of inhalation to kill 50% of rest population
What are poisons?
Substances that are toxic at low levels
What are irritants?
Substances that cause local inflammatory reaction upon contact
What are Asphyxiants?
Substances that interfere with the oxygenation of tissue
What are Simple Asphyxiants?
These substances displace Oxygen in the atmosphere so it won’t enter the body
What are Chemical Asphyxiants?
These substances chemically bond to the Hemoglobin to prevent Oxygenation within the RBC
What are Carcinogens?
Substances that cause cancer
What are Biological Agents?
These substances include bacteria, viruses, microorganisms and their toxins
What are Blood Agents?
Substances that contain the Cyanide group that prevent the body from utilizing Oxygen
