Chemistry Flashcards
What is the RoR?
The rate of reaction is the speed at which reactants get turned into products
4 factors that affect reaction rate
Concentration, Pressure, Temperature and Surface Area
What is a Catalyst?
Gives a lower energy alternative for so that it increases ROR
How do you find the tangent?
A straight line just onto of the apex of the point you want to find and then a right angle
How do you calculate a ROR at a point
After placing your tangent it will be difference in Y over difference in X
How does surface area affect Ror and particle theory
The surface area to volume ratio will increase meaning more particles can collide resulting in more fruitful collisions.
How does temperature affect Ror? Explain in particle theory
The kinetic energy is increased when the temperature is increased resulting in more collisions and more fruitful collisions.
What does concentration do to Ror? In terms of particle theory
More particles are cramped together in one space creating a higher collision rate and frequency of collisions
magnisium carbonate chips is in excess with 0.5 mol/dm3 in reaction 1
Magnisium carbonate chips is in excess with 1.0 mol/dm3 in reaction 2
Which reaction would create a larger product?
Reaction 1
