Chemistry Flashcards
If there is suddenly an increase of protons in the blood, what would happened to the bicarbonate ions in the blood?
Bicarbonate ions would decrease since it would buffer the protons
What is Faraday’s constant?
It is the charge of one mole of electrons (10^5 C/mol)
What is the Lyman series?
A group of hydrogen emission lines corresponding to transitions from energy levels n≥2 to n=1
What is the Balmer series?
A group of hydrogen emission lines corresponding to transitions from energy levels n≥3 to n=2 (includes four wavelengths in the visible region)
What is the Paschen series?
A group of hydrogen emission lines corresponding to transitions from energy levels n≥4 to n=3
How are Gibbs free energy and Keq related?
delta G = -RT ln(Keq)
What are the periodic table trends?
As one goes left to right (across a period): Atomic radius goes down Ionization energy goes up Electron affinity goes up Electronegativity goes up
As one goes top to bottom (across a group): Atomic radius goes up Ionization energy goes down Electron affinity goes down Electronegativity goes down
