Q

Rutherford’s Model?

A

His model of the atom had a nucleus with protons in it and the electrons were just circling it. It had no neutrons. The electrons were like the seeds in a watermelon.

12
Q

Naming molecular compound.

A
  1. Add a prefix to represent the atoms of each element in the compound. The prefix mono- is only used with the second element.
  2. Add -ide to the second element.

16
Q

Ions

A

Charged atoms or molecules that form when atoms lose or gain electrons.

17
Q

Isotope

A

Isotopes aremembers of a family of an element that all have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. Isotopes have a different atomic mass from the periodic table.

18
Q

Atoms

A

Smallest unit of matter.

19
Q

Cation

A

Positively charged ion

20
Q

Anion

A

Negatively charged ion

21
Q

Who discovered the electron?

A

J.J Thomson

22
Q

Who discovered the proton?

A

E. Rutherford

23
Q

Who discovered the neutron?

A

James Chadwick

24
Q

Molecule

A

A molecule is an electrically neutral group of two (or more) atoms chemically bonded together.

25
Q

Why are element in group 18 stable?

A

They are stable becuase they have a full valence shell.

26
Q

Why is group 18 special?

A

Group 18 is special becuase the elements in that group have a full valence shell, they do not need more electrons.

27
Q

Pb

A

Lead
