Chemistry Flashcards
Why is water a liquid at room temperature?
Water has an elevated boiling point causes by the hydrogen bonds.
What features are in hydrogen bonds?
Has a lone pair and is electronegative.
Why can ice float?
Water has a open tetrahedral lattice full of holes less dense.
What is the test for carbonate?
Add dilute nitric acid it bubbles. Then bubble through limewater until cloudy white with pcpt
What is the test for a sulfate?
Add dilute acid and barium chloride white precipitate
How do you test for halide?
Aqueous silver nitrate make chlorine white, bromine cream and iodine yellow. Add aqueous ammonia then dilute.
What is the test for ammonium?
Add Aqueous NaOH ammonia gas made.
What is the standard conditions?
100Kpa 25° 1moldm-3
What is standard enthalpy change of reaction?
Enthalpy change that accompanies a reaction in the molar quantities shown in a chemical equation under standard condition/state.
What is enthalpy change of formation?
Enthalpy change that takes place when one mole of compound is formed from its constituent elements under standard conditions.
What is enthalpy of combustion?
Enthalpy change when one mole of substance reacts completely with oxygen under standard conditions.
What is enthalpy change of neutralisation?
Energy change that accompanies the reaction of an acid by a base to form one mole of H2O under standard conditions.
