- Acidify, then add aqueous barium nitrate.
- RESULT: white ppt.

- Add dilute hydrochloric acid, warm gently and test for the presence of sulfur dioxide.
- RESULT: Sulfur dioxide produced will turn acidified aqueous potassium manganate from purple to colourless.
