Chemical Safety Flashcards
System of classification and labeling of chemicals that might be hazardous substances. Internationally agreed-upon by the UN and is required to manufacturers, importers, distributors, and users.
GHS Labeling (Globally Harmonized System)
6 Basic Parts of the GHS Labeling
Product Identifier, Signal Word, Hazard Statement, Precautionary Statements, Supplier Identification, and Pictograms
9 GHS Labeling Pictograms
Flame Over Circle, Flame, Exploding Bomb, Gas Cylinder, Skull & Crossbones, Corrosion, Health Hazard, Environment, and Exclamation Mark.
A fire hazard that is oxidizing
Flame Over Circle
A fire hazard that is flammable, pyrophoric, self-heating substance/s, and self-reactive substance/s
Flame
It is an explosive hazard
Exploding Bomb
It is a gas under pressure hazard
Gas Cylinder
A hazard that is poison or can be a acute toxicity
Skull & Crossbones
A hazard that could lead to skin corrosion or can be corrosive to metals
Corrosion
A hazard that can lead to carcinogenicity, respiratory effects, reproductive effects (chronic), and can target organ toxicity
Health Hazard
A hazard that can be acute/chronic to environment. Aquatic toxicity
Environment Hazard
A hazard that can cause skin irritation, serious eye damage, and allergic reactions
Exclamation Mark
A system of classification that is a visual representation of a chemical substance in terms of its reactivity, flammability, health hazard, and special hazards (not internationally agreed).
NFPA Diamond (National Fire Protection Agency)
Temperature at which a substance starts to generate vapors when heated
Flash Point
Color of the NFPA Fire Hazard / Flammability
Red
