Chemical Reactivity - Key Terms Flashcards
Define, “Reaction Rate”
The number of reactions happening in a given amount of time.
Define, “Activation Energy”
The minimum energy required by the reactant particles to initiate a chemical reaction.
Define, “Temperature”
A measure of kinetic energy possessed by particles in matter.
Define, “Concentration”
The number of particles of a substance in a given volume. Units are moles per litre (mol L-1)
Define, “Surface Area”
The extent of the surface of an object or substance.
Define, “Catalyst”
A substance that changes the rate of a chemical reaction but is not used up in the reaction.
Define, “Collision Theory”
States that reactant particles must collide with sufficient energy and the correct orientation to initiate a chemical reaction.
