Chemical Reactions Flashcards
What does the (s) , (l), and (g) stand for in a chemical equation?
Solid, Liquid, gas
What does (aq) stand for in a chemical equation?
Aqueous, a substance that has been dissolved in water to forma solution like satlwater, rain, cola, water, and vinegar
What is flammability?
Ability of a substance to ignite to a flame without burning
What is corrosion?
Chemical reaction where a metal reacts with oxygen and accelerates by water and salt which limits the use of metals for some purposes
What is combustion?
substance which reacts with oxygen gas which releases energy of light and heat
What is neutralizing a base?
acid and the base react to form a salt water as products
What is the purpose of combustion?
produces energy in the form of heat and light
Equation of combustion
Fuel/Propane + Oxygen →carbon dioxide + water + heat and light
Catalyst?
when a word is written above the arrow in a chemical equation
Things to do to limit corrosion?
Coatings, paint, grease, and other metals
What is the iron equation
iron+ water= iron oxide
Give an example of a chemical reaction when the a gas has formed
photosynthesis, baking soda and vinegar
Give an example of a chemical reaction when a colour change occurs
iron added to blue coloured copper sulfate solution and it turns green
Give an example of a chemical reaction when the an odour produced
egg rots, during chemical decomposition
Give an example of a chemical reaction when there was a temp change
glowsticks (the rate is altered by temperature)
