Q

What are reversible reactions?

A

Reversible reaction is a reaction in which the reactants react to form Products, and at the same time the products formed react to form back the reactants depending on the reaction conditions

Q

What are the steps in the contact process?

A
  1. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and air is passed over vanadium(v)oxide (V2O5)catalyst at 450 degrees at 1-2 atmospheres
  2. Sulfur trioxide (SO3) formed in absorbed by concentrated sulfuric acid ( H2 SO4) in an absorption tower to form oleum( H2 S2 O7)
    Equation: SO3 + H2SO4> H2S2O7
  3. Oleum is diluted to form 98% concentrated and 2% diluted sulphuric acid.
    Equation: H2S2O7 + H2O> 2H2SO4
