Chemical Foundations Flashcards
Define chemistry
The COMPOSITON, PROPERTIES, and REACTIONS of matter using MICRO and MACROscopic perspectives
Physical Properties
Characteristics of a substance that can be found without altering the chemical composition
Eg.) Boiling Point, Mass, or Volume
Chemical Properties
Characteristics of a substance that determines how it will react with other substances
Sig Fig Rules
- All non zero digits are significant
- All zeroes that come after the decimal and after a non-zero digit are significant
- Leading zeros are not significant
- Assume trailing zeros before the decimal are not significant
Organic Chemistry
The study of the chemistry of carbon compounds with a few exceptions like carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide
Inorganic Chemistry
The study of inorganic compounds, specifically their structure, catalysis, and mechanism action.
Accuracy
The level to which the determined value ( experimental value) agrees with a known true value ( theoretical value)
Angstrom
The approximate diameter of a single atom
