Chemical Equilibria and Acid-base Reactions Flashcards
What is Le Chatelier’s principle?
If the conditions of a reaction that is in equilibrium are changed then the reaction will resist the change.
What is the definition of ‘dynamic equilibrium’?
A reaction where the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the backward reaction.
What does the picture below mean?
A reversible reaction.
What is the Haber process equation?
N2(g) + 3H2(g) (reversible reaction) 2NH3(g)
What are the three conditions that change the position of equilibrium according to Le Chatelier’s principle?
Temperature, pressure and concentration.
Which side does the equilibrium move to when the pressure is increased?
An increase in pressure moves the equilibrium to the side with less gaseous moles.
Which side does the equilibrium move to when the pressure is decreased?
The equilibrium is moved to the side with more gaseous moles.
