Chemical Digestion Flashcards
How do you get from starch into glucose ?
Amylase (either from the pancreas or salivary gland) breaks starch into maltose
Maltese then breaks down maltose into glucose
How do you get from polypeptides to amino acids?
Trypisn breaks down polypeptides into peptide
Exopeptidase then breaks the peptides into amino acids
How do you get from bile to fatty acid and glycerol?
Bile emulsifies fates/ lipids into emulsified droplets
Lipase then breaks down the emulsified droplets into fatty acid and glycerol.
Enzymes produced in the small intestine
Maltase
Exopeptidase
Enzymes produced in the stomach
Pepsin
Lactase
Enzymes produced in the pancreas
Lipase
Pancreatic amylase
Trypsin
Enzymes produced in the salivary glands
Salivary amylase
