Chemical Digestion Flashcards
What produces Saliva, where is it found, what is it composed of and what does it do?
Saliva is found in the mouth and is it produced by the salivary glands. It is composed of mucous, amylase and lactase, and is what begins to break down carbs and startch into maltose and eventually glucose.
What produces Gastric juice, where is it found, what is it composed of and what does it do?
Gastric juice is found in the stomach and is produced by glands in the stomach. It is composed of hydrochloric acid and contains renin and pepsinogen that turns into pepsin. Pepsin digest protines into peptides and renin curdles milk protines.
What produces Bile, where is it found, what is it composed of and what does it do?
Bile is produced by the liver and is stored and released from the gall blader. It is composed of bile salts and it emulsifies fats, breaking them down into droplets for easier digestion.
What produces Pancreatic juice, where is it found, what is it composed of and what does it do?
Pancreatic juice comes from the pancreas and is compused of socium bicarbonate, as well as 28 enzymes including: lipases, amylases and trypsin. It is used to neutrilize stomach acids, digest carb, lipids and protines into simpler molecules.
What produces Intestinal juice, where is it found, what is it composed of and what does it do?
Intestinal juice is found in the small intestines and is composed of maltase, sucrase, lactase, peptidase and erepsin which are all enzymes used to complete the digestion of carbs by turning them into monosaccharids and digesting protines by turning them into amino acids.
