Chemical Change And Structure Flashcards
What is the four signs of a chemical reaction
Colour change, gas given off, precipitation and energy/temp change
What happens in every chemical reaction
A new substance is formed
What is solute, solvent and solution
Solute - the chemical being desolved
Solvent - the liquid that desolves the solute
Solution - the final mixture of solute and solvent
What is dilute, concentrated and saturated
Dilute - not much solute, lots of water
Concentrated - lots of solute, not much water
Saturated - no more solute can be desolved, all spaces taken up
What are the four main variables
Concentration, temperature, particle size and a catalyst
What happens when you decrease and increase the particle size
Decrease- increase the rate of reaction
Increase- decrease the rate of reaction
If the line on the graph is steeper what does that mean and if it’s flat
Flat- the reaction has stopped
Steep- the reaction is fast
