Chem terms Flashcards
Solvent
A chemical substance that dissolves another chemical substance to form a solution of a homogeneous mixture.
Solute
The minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.
Solution
A liquid mixture in which the solute is uniformly distributed within the major solvent.
Solubility
Degree to which a substance dissolves in a solvent to make a solution
Saturated
Being completely filled with something so that no more can be added.
Unsaturated
A solution in which it contains a lesser amount of solute that in a saturated solution
Supersaturated
Increase the concentration of a solution beyond saturation point
Concentrated
a relatively large quantity of substance present in a unit amount of a mixture
Dilute
To make a liquid weaker by mixing it with water or another liquid
Miscible
Forming homogeneous mixture when added together
Immiscible
Incapable of mixing
Soluble
Able to be dissolved, especially in water
Solvation
The interaction of a solvent with the dissolved solute
Insoluble
Incapable of being dissolved
