CHEM QA Flashcards
carbonate test
add dilute acid; effervescence carobon dioxide produced
chloride
acidicify with dilute nitric acid, then add aq silver nitrate; white ppt
iodide
acidicify with dilute nitric acid, then add aq silver nitrate; yellow ppt
nitrate
add aq sodium hydroxide, then aluminium foil; warm carefully; ammonia produced
sulfate
acidifiy with dilute nitric acid, then add aq barium nitrate; white ppt
aluminium/Lead(II)
NaOH: White ppt, soluble in excess giving coloourless soln
Aq Ammonia: white ppt, insoluble in excess
ammonium
NaOH: ammonia produced on warming
calcium
NaOH: White ppt, insoluble in excess
Aq ammonia: no ppt
copper (II)
NaOH: Light blue ppt, insoluble in excess
Aq ammonia: soluble in excess giving dark blue soln
Iron (II)
NaOH: green ppt; insoluble in excess
Iron (III)
NaOH: red brown ppt; insoluble in excess
Aq Ammonia: red brown ppt; insoluble in excess
zinc
NaOH: white ppt, soluble in excess giving a colourless soln
Aq ammonia: white ppt, soluble in excess giving a colourless soln
Lead (II) distinguish from Al (III)
Add HCl to chloride, look for ppt as lead (II) iS insoluble
Ammonia
Turns damp red litmus paper blue
co2
gives ppt when bubbed into limewater(ppt dissolved with excess co2)
