chem chapter 8 Flashcards
What is an NMR spectroscopy?
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is the study of molecules by recording the interaction of radiofrequency (Rf) electromagnetic radiations with the nuclei of molecules placed in a strong magnetic field.
What is IR spectroscopy?
Infared spectroscopy is the spectroscopy that deals with the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, that is light with a longer wavelength and lower frequency than visible light.
it tells us the functional groups in the molecule and fingerprint region
the fingerprint region is a unique identifier
what is a base peak?
The base peak represents the most abundant species and so is assigned a relative abundance of 100
What does C13 NMR give?
It gives number of the Carbon environments
What does H1 NMR give?
It gives the number of hydrogen environments
what does H NMR spectroscopy show?
HNMR spectroscopy shows peaks in a low resolution
mass spectrometry
Mass spectrometry is an analytical tool useful for measuring the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of one or more molecules present in a sample.
what are the isotopes of Br
2; 79 and 81, both 50%
what are the isotopes of Cl
2
carbonyl functional group is?
C=O
