17
Q

What does it mean by immiscible ?

A

Two liquids that can’t mix together

18
Q

What does it mean by filtrate

A

A liquid which has passed through a filter

19
Q

What does it mean by residue?

A

A small amount of something that remains after the main part has gone

20
Q

What does it mean by distillate?

A

Is a technique to separate two miscible liquids, where you heat both liquids and which ever has the lower boiling point will go to a gas and be condensed back to a liquid

21
Q

What are the laboratory safety rules?

A
  • Wear safety specks
  • wear lab coat
  • hair tied back
  • wash hands before/after
  • don’t leave gas taps on
  • etc.
22
Q

What types of flames are there on a Bunsen burner?

A

If hole is showing then it will be a friendly red fame. If hole is NOT showing then its a blue sharp flame

23
Q

What is diffusion?

A

Particles going from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area eg. Spraying perfume to one area of the room then the whole room smells

24
Q

How does the size of particles effect the rate of diffusion?

A

The larger the particles the slower they will diffuse therefore the slower the diffusion rate

25
Q

What is the difference between chemical and physical change?

A

Chemical change are irreversible and always create a new compound while physical changes are reversible eg. Physical change= water to ice, chemical change= burning something

26
Q

What signs are usually given off to show a chemical change has occurred?

A

A gas given off, temperature change, colour change

27
Q

Is mass created or destroyed during a chemical reaction?

A

No

28
Q

Word equation for sodium chloride?

A

Sodium+chlorine—>sodium chloride

29
Q

What are some separating techniques?(8)

A

Dissolving, filtering, crystallisation, distillation, using a separating funnel, chromatography, fractional, distillation,

30
Q

What is dissolving?

A

A soluble solvent is mixed with the right liquid e to make a solution

31
Q

What is filtering

A

Using a funnel and filter paper to separate a solid from a liquid by passing the liquid e through the paper and the solid does not go through

32
Q

What is crystallisation

A

Separating two solids from each other

33
Q

What is distillation

A

Separating to misible liquids

34
Q

What is using a separating funnel

A

Sep earthing two immisible liquids

35
Q

What is chromatography

A

Separating different dyes or pigments

36
Q

What is fractional distillation

A

Separating two miscible liquids

37
Q

What test is used for carbon dioxide

A

Bubbles gas through limewater

38
Q

What test is used for hydrogen

A

Squeaky pop

39
Q

What test is used for oxygen

A

Relight a glowing splint

40
Q

What is waters melting and boiling point

A

Melting-0’C

Boiling- 100’C
