What is the difference between checks and balances and separation of powers?
Checks and balances= make sure one branch does not have to much power.
Separation of powers= powers separated equally between the 3 branches.
What are examples of checks the legislative branch has on the executive branch?
Can reject appointments, can reject treaties, can withhold funding for presidential initiative, can impeach and remove the president, and can override a veto.
What are the ways the Legislative branch checks the Judicial branch?
can propose constitutional amendments to override judicial decisions, can impeach and remove supreme court justices, can reject appointments to the supreme court.
How does the executive branch limit the power of the legislative branch?
Can veto bills, can adjourn congress or call special sessions of congress, proposes legislation, prepares annual budget.
How does the executive branch limit the power of the Judicial branch?
Appoints judges to the supreme court and other federal courts.
How does the Judicial branch limit the power of the legislative branch?
May declare laws unconstitutional.
How does the judicial branch limit the executive branch.
May declare executive actions unconstitutional.
What is judicial review?
interpreting the law, says what the law means.
What does the Executive branch do?
Propose laws, administers the laws, commands armed force, appoints ambassadors and other officials.
What does the Legislative branch do?
Writes laws, confirms presidential appointments, ratifies treaties, grants money, declares war.
What does the Judicial branch do?
Interprets the constitution and other laws.
