Where is John Agard form and how might this have influenced his writing of the poem?
A
He was born in Guyana – when it was still British Guiana – in 1949; his mother was Portuguese and his father was Black. Since the 17th century, Guyana has been colonised and controlled – mostly by the British. This meant that their culture and history were repressed, and replaced with a British education and identity.
