At the start of each shift, what 4 checks must officers perform on their OC spray?
- Visually inspect canister for any damage
- Shake spray to gauge contents
- Check nozzle, ensure clear and no obstructions
- Check expiry date and ensure it’s still in date
- Ensure aftercare equipment is ready
What must you do with your OC spray at the end of shift?
Place in issued sealable container and store in PL15 locker at office. If not at the office, store in lock box of SOV vehicle
What do you do if your OC spray is damaged, discharged, or past expiry?
Inform your SGT, dispose of it correctly and request a new OC spray. Need to empty entire contents.
What are the 4 affected areas when a person is sprayed with OC?
Skin, eyes, nose, respiratory (mouth)
What should you say when drawing or presenting your OC spray or spraying?
“Stop or I will spray”
“Spray, spray, spray”
How long do you stay with a sprayed person?
For at least 45 minutes and until the affects have mostly worn off (sprayed person is no longer at risk).
