CHDD Flashcards
Describe how to do a collapsing pulse test and if there is a collapsing pulse, what would you feel and what would this be a sign of?
- Find the patients radial pulse
- Ask them if they have shoulder pain - if no then raise their arm to above their head (whilst still holding onto their radial pulse)
- If you feel a jolt/rapid increase then a subsequent rapid decrease (leak of blood back into the LV) in the pulse then this is a sign of AORTIC REGURGITATION
Mitral facies is typically seen in what condition?
Mitral valve stenosis
What does a left parasternal heave indicate?
Right ventricular hypertrophy
When auscultating the apex of the heart, what pathologies are you looking for?
Mitral valve pathologies.
Here is where you hear S1 and S2
When auscultating the left axilla what are you looking for?
Mitral valve regurgitation
When you use the bell to listen to the apex of the heart what pathology are you looking for?
(Low pitched murmur) of mitral stenosis
When auscultating, where is the tricuspid area?
Lower left sternal edge
When are left sided murmurs heard best - on inspiration or expiration?
Expiration (LE)
Right sided murmurs are heard best on inspiration. RI
