Q

Describe how to do a collapsing pulse test and if there is a collapsing pulse, what would you feel and what would this be a sign of?

A
  1. Find the patients radial pulse
  2. Ask them if they have shoulder pain - if no then raise their arm to above their head (whilst still holding onto their radial pulse)
  3. If you feel a jolt/rapid increase then a subsequent rapid decrease (leak of blood back into the LV) in the pulse then this is a sign of AORTIC REGURGITATION
