What is coronary heart disease? What happens?
A
Layers of fatty material build up in coronary arteries, narrowing them.
Results in reduced blood flow, and therefore oxygen to heart muscle.

Treatment of CHD
A
Stents
Widen the artery, increasing blood flow again

Prevention of CHD
A
Statins
Reduce blood cholesterol, reduces build up of fatty material

Downside to statins
A
Have to take every day, may forget

Downsides to stents
A
Risk of infection from procedure
Risk of surgery eg heart attack
Risk of thrombosis or blood clot
