Comprehension and Knowledge (Gc) aka Crystalized Intelligence
Refers to verbal reasoning and concept formation based on previously learned information.
It includes the ability to communicate thoughts clearly, as well as general understanding of spoken language.
Fluid Reasoning (Gf)
Refers to a student’s novel reasoning and problem solving, or their ability to solve problems that are unfamiliar
Visual Processing (Gv)
Refers to the general ability to reason and solve abstract, picture‐oriented problems
Auditory Processing (Ga)
Is the ability to perceive, analyze, and synthesize a variety of auditory information.
This includes phonetic coding, which is the ability to recognize and process subtle differences between speech sounds. Phonetic coding in particular is important for the acquisition of reading skills.
Learning Efficiency and Retrieval (Glr)
Aka
Long term Storage and Retrieval
Refers to a student’s ability to store, consolidate, and retrieve information and fluently retrieve from long‐term memory.
Processing Speed (Gs)
Is the ability to perform simple tasks quickly and fluently, especially when under pressure to maintain attention and concentration.
General Working Memory (Gwm)
Aka
Short-term Working Memory
Is the ability to hold information in immediate awareness and use or transform it within a few seconds. Working memory requires the student to manipulate the information prior to responding and involves attention and concentration.
Attention and Executive Functioning (EF)
Refers to a set of processes that have to do with managing oneself and one’s resources in order to achieve a goal. It is an umbrella term for the neurologically‐based skills involving mental control and self‐regulation.
The cognitive processes of executive functioning include initiation, working memory, planning and organization, task monitoring, sustained attention, and organization of materials.
