CHART OF THE MOTOR DYSFUNCTION AND SENSORY IN PACKET Flashcards
LMN
ALL MOTOR LOST in path
ATROPHY, FASICULATIONS, FIBRILLATIONS
decrease tone
decrease voluntary movement
weak or paralyzed for coordination
NO DTR and NO BABINSKI
Sensory nerve lesion
lose reflex and tone bc lost sensory part of reflex arc
MOVEMENT NOT AFFECTED
decrease tone
normal voluntary movement
normal coordination if eyes open, not if eyes closed
NO DTR
NO BABINSKI
SCI
all motor and sensory lost below level of lesion
ATROPHY in flaccid stage
decre tone then get spasticity
absent voluntary movement below level of lesion
absent coordination below lesion
absent then HYPER of DTR and ABNORMAL Babinski
Cerebral Cortex
most common stroke in internal capsule –interrupt motor and sensory to contralateral side
normal at rest appearance
decr then INCREASED TONE
voluntary movement: weakness, pathological synergies
poor coordination
absent then INCREASE DTR, absent then ABNORMAL BABINSKI
Basal Ganglia
loss balance between cholenergic and dopamine
rigidity, TREMOR AT REST, poverty of movement
RIGIDITY
SLOW MOVEMENT: BRADYKINESIA
slowed coordination
NORMAL DTR!!!!!
dont have a babinski sign
Cerebellar
deficit in coordination, balance, hypotonia depending on where it is
NO PARALYSIS, normal appearance at rest
TONE: normal or decreased
voluntary movement: normal or decr strength
coordination: POOR COORDINATION, INTENTION TREMOR
DTR: SWINGING or PENDULAR REFLEX
no babinski sign
Sensory Loss Pattern
AHC
normal sensoation
decreased DTR
cause by POLIO, ALS, other motor neuron disease
Sensory Loss Pattern
Spinal Roots and Nerves
loss all sensation in distribution of dermatome
DTR decreased or absent
caused by bulging or herniated disc
Sensory Loss Pattern
Peripheral nerve mononeuropathy
lose all sensation in affected nerves distribution
DTR silent or absent
due to compression or trauma
Sensory Loss Pattern
Peripheral Nerve polyneuropathy
loss of all sensation in stocking and glove distribution
DTR decreased or absent
cause: systemic toxicity , alcoholism, diabetes, drug toxicity
Sensory Loss Pattern
NMJ
normal sensation
normal DTR
cause: myasthenia gravis
Sensory Loss Pattern
Muscle issue
normal sensation
normal or decreased or absent DTR
caused by muscular dystrophy
Sensory Loss Pattern
Posterior Columns
lose: POSITION, Vibration sense, stereognosis and 2 pt discrimination (dorsal column medial lemniscus)
sensory loss below the level of the injury SAME SIDE
DTR: INCREASED
cause: trauma, tumor
Sensory Loss Pattern
Thalamus
all sensation loss/or decreased–entire contralateral body
THALAMIC PAIN
DTR increased
cause: stroke
Sensory Loss Pattern
Sensory Cortex
lose cortical sensations on entire contralateral body
DTR increased
cause: stroke
