A
To see if the alternator is not charging the battery and to check output of the alternator

How do you read max volt output
A
Start engine
rev to 2k rpm
read volts
Should be 13.5V - 15.5V

A
Start engine
rev to 2k rpm
apply load until volts drop to 12V
Read amps
