Charge Of The Light Brigade Flashcards
Context
From the point of view of a man who seems to be pro war as he watches soldiers fight against the enemy
“When can their glory fade”
Shows that the speaker admires the soldiers and introduces their approval for war. Admire the soldiers for their actions and view them as “heroes”
“into the valley of death”
This shows that the speaker thinks the soldiers are brave, their actions are also made to seem rehearsed (they move as a single unit) so it could be argued that they dont really know what they’re doing - are they really brave or just following orders.
“six hundred” - “left of the six hundred”
The numbers decreasing shows that the soldiers are dying and paired with the hecticness of the poem it suggests that this is happening quite fast.
Sense of anonymity/ group as no single individual is referenced.
Structure
The poem has lots of commas; pauses = action and the lost like structure suggests that everything is happening quite fast
