The author/someone tells us what a character is like
indirect presentation
we learn about a character :
By what he says
by what he does
by what he thinks
to be convincing, a character must be
Consistent
Motivated
Plausible

not behaving in one way and one situation and in a different way in another situation

the reader can see why he acts as he does

Life like or unbelievable
flat character
characterized by one or two traits

Does not change; is basically the same the whole story

Undergoes a permanent change
for a dynamic character to go under a change and for it to be convincing
it must be within the possibility of the character
it must be motivated by the circumstances in which the character finds himself
There must be significant time for the change to take place

Character who contrasts strongly so that the traits of each are emphasized by contrast with those of the other
