Shows scrooge hates Christmas
Scrooge- as solitary as an oyster
Scrooge is lonely, put the word oyster suggests that there’s a little something inside. Shows potential for a change
Scrooge No warmth could warm
Presents scrooge as a cold character
Scrooge- What reason have you to be merry? Your poor enough
Ignores the idea of family, and believes money is more important
But though Scrooge pressed it down with all his force, he could not hide the light
Shows that no matter how much he regrets and tries to hide from his past, he will never be able to erase it
Rusty keys, nails, chains, hinges, files, scales, weights and refuse iron of all kinds
Shows that even though he had money, this had no impact in the end as he was hated as a person

Repetition od the word merry contrast to the melancholy feeling in the beginning of the novella. Shows scrooge is happier now and has changed

Contrasts to scrooge at the start when he is reluctant to letting Bob have more than one coal. Now shows that Scrooge has changed
Belle- a golden idol has replaced me
Breaks of engagement as she knows money is more important to scrooge
Bob said he didn’t think there ever was such a goose cooked
Even though Bob is poor, this quote shows how he is happy and proud of their efforts.

Tiny Tim would be an admirable character for the reader as they can see he is a religious little boy. They would also feel sympathy towards him as he is a disabled child
Mankind was my business
This quote is Dickens talking through Marley to try and show the miserly upper class that other people are more important than money
torture of remorse
The emotive word ‘remorse’ is used by Dickens to try and scare the upper class into being more charitable
