Character Motavation
An author makes straightforward statements about a character
EX. Freddy was very competitive
Direct Characterization
An author presents a characters thoughts,words, and actions and reveals what others think and say about the character

Tells reader character
ex. She was always a cheery upbeat person

Gives broad sweep
ex. You can summorize personality in a line
