Characteristics of living things Flashcards
Name the 7 Characteristics of living things.
Movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, nutrition
What is movement?
An action by an organism that causes a change of position or place, either of the whole organism or a part of it.
What is respiration?
The chemical reactions in cells that break down nutrients and release energy for metabolic reactions.
What is sensitivity?
The ability to detect and respond to stimuli in the environment.
What is growth?
A permanent increase in size and dry mass by an increase in cell number and cell size.
What is reproduction?
The process of making more of the same type of species.
What is excretion?
The removal of toxic, excess or waste products formed by metabolism from the body of an organism.
What is nutrition?
The taking in of materials for energy, growth and development.
What is respiration?
The chemical reactions in cells that break down nutrients and release energy for metabolic reactions
