Q

Explain all the characteristics of a living organism.

A

Movement- the changing of position of a living organism.
Respiration- The chemical reaction in cells that break down nutrients.
Sensitivity- The ability to detect stimuli and make appropriate responses.
Growth- The permanent increase in cell size or the increase of a cell.
Reproduction- The process of multiplying the same kind of organism.
Excretion- The removal of waste products from the body.
Nutrition- The process of obtaining food needed for health and growth.

Q

Archaea vs Bacteria vs Eukarya

Kingdoms/Eukarya

A

Archaea and Bacteria are cells that have no Nucleus while Eukarya do. Eukarya has a variety of organisms which are: Protists, Fungi, Animalia and Plantae.

Q

Protists

A

-Most protists are unicellular.
-Some reproduce asexually and some reproduce sexually.
-Some are autotrophic and some are heterotrophic.
-Some can move and some can’t
-Protist interactions can be good or bad when interacting with different organisms.
-Examples of protists are Amoeba

Q

Fungi

A
  • Examples of this are mushrooms, yeast, and mold.
-Most fungi cells are multicellular but some like yeast are unicellular.
-Fungi get the energy they need from breaking down other living organisms which means they are heterotrophic.
