8
Q

How does the binomial system work?

A

The binomial system is a two-word name, the genus is always written in capital letters. The second name tells us the species the organism belongs to.

Extra: When printed they are always in italics, when writing you have to underline the binomial.

Q

How does the Dichotomous key work?

A

It works by asking a question and then either giving you two species, two more questions, or one of each based on the answer

16
Q

What is the main difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells?

A

Eukaryote cells have membrane-bound organelles while prokaryotes don’t

17
Q

Which Kingdom(s) doesn’t have a cell wall?

A

Only one, the animal kingdom!

18
Q

Which Kingdom(s) have multiple materials to form the cell wall based on the species?

A

Protoctistans and prokaryotes

19
Q

What is the main difference between Heterotrophs and Autotrophs?

A

Heterotrophs can’t produce their own food and resort to consuming nutrients from other species while autotrophs have different methods of creating their own food

20
Q

What material makes a cell wall in a fungi cell?

A

Chitin

21
Q

How are plants different from fungi in terms of mode of nutrition?

A

Plants are autotrophs using photosynthesis while fungi are heterotrophs by absorption

22
Q

How are protoctistans and prokaryotes similar in terms of mode of nutrition?

A

They can be either heterotrophic or autotrophic by photosynthesis depending on the species (NEVER BOTH)

23
Q

Which Kingdom(s) have to be multicellular?

A

The Animal and Plant Kingdoms

24
Q

Which kingdom(s) have to be unicellular?

A

Prokaryotes

25
Q

Are protoctistans unicellular or multicellular?

A

Mostly unicellular but some could be multicellular depending on the species

26
Q

What are the 2 Phyla of the animal kingdom that we need to know?

A

Vertebrates and Invertebrates

27
Q

What are the 5 classes of the phylum vertebrates?

A

Mammals, Reptiles, Fish, Birds, and Amphibians

28
Q

What are the phyla of invertebrates we need to know?

A

Molluscs (escargo) and Arthropods

29
Q

What are the 4 subphyla of arthropods that we need to know

A

Arachnids, Insects, Crustaceans, and Myriapods

30
Q

What are the 4 characteristics of arthropods?

A

1) No backbone
2) Waterproof exoskeleton
3) Skeleton made of chitin
4) Several pairs of jointed legs
