Basic character evidence rule with exceptions
Evidence of a person’s character may not be introduced to support an inference that the person acted on a specific occasion in conformity with that character.
Character evidence to prove a person’s action in conformity with that character - prohibited?
Often prohibited.
Propensity Inference
That someone did something because he or she is the type of person who would likely have done it. Prohibits introduction of information about reputation or past conduct.
FRE 404(a)(1)
Prohibited Use: Evidence of a person’s character or character trait is not admissible to prove that on a particular occasion the person acted in accordance with the character or trait.
