Protagonist
the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
Antagonist
a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary.
Coming-of-age story
a genre of literature, theatre, film, and video game that focuses on the growth of a protagonist.
Bildungsroman
a novel dealing with one person’s formative years or spiritual education.
Epiphany
a moment of sudden revelation or insight.
Round Characters
a character in a fictional work with depth or a complex personality.
Flat Characters
two-dimensional in that they are relatively uncomplicated and do not change throughout the course of a work.
Foil
prevent (something considered wrong or undesirable) from succeeding.
Stock Characters
a type of character in a narrative whom audiences recognize across many narratives.
Direct Characterization
a method of describing the character in a straightforward manner.
Indirect Characterization
a type of literary device that reveals details about a character without stating them explicitly.
