Character
a person depicted in narrative
Protagonist
the main character in a work; often a hero or heroine, but not always
Antagonist
a character in a story or play who opposes the protagonist
Bildungsroman
a novel that explores the maturation of the protagonist, with the narrative usually moving to the main character from childhood to adulthood
Epiphany
because Myop understands the harsh reality of violent racism immediately
Round characters
protagonists usually fall into this category
Flat character
though some antagonist do change and grow
Foil
a contrasting character who allows the protagonist to stand out more distinctly
Stock Character
may provide comic relief or simply prevent an author from having to explain their traits in detail
Direct Characterization
a narrator tells the reader who a character is by describing the background, motivation, temperament, or appearance of a character
Indirect Characterization
an author shows rather than tells us what a character is like through what the character says, does, or thinks or through what others say about the character
