Photosynthesis
The process by which a cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food
Autotroph
A produces, or an organism that makes its own food
Heterotroph
An organism that cannot make its own food, a consumer
Chlorophyll
The man pigment of photosynthesis in chloroplasts
Cellular respiration
The process by which cells obtain energy from glucose
Fermentation
An energy-releasing process that does not require oxygen
Cell cycle
The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo
Interphase
Period before cell division
Replication
In this process the cell makes an exact copy of DNA in its nucleus
Chromosomes
Threadlike structures formed by DNA and proteins
Mitosis
During this the cell’s nucleus divides into two new nuclei and one set of DNA is distributed into each daughter cell
Cytokinesis
The last stage which completes the process of cell division
