Chapters12-14 Flashcards
How does Jem change?
Jem is growing up and trying to change and be like Atticus.
Identify Lula, Zeebo and Reverend Sykes.
Lula is a woman at Calpurnia’s church and makes Scout and Jem unwelcome. Zeebo is Calpurnia’s son & makes them feel welcome. Reverend Sykes is the preacher at the church.
What does Scout learn about Calpurnia?
She learns that Calpurnia has a double life. She acts and talks like black people when she is with them and like white people when she is around white people.
Who was waiting for the children when they came home from the church service? Why had she come?
Aunt Alexandria was waiting for them after church. To help Atticus with the children when Atticus was on the Robinson’s trial.
“Aunt Alexandra fitted into the world of Maycomb like a hand in a glove, but never into the world of Jem and me.” Explain.
She knew the proper social things to say and do. She knew the history of most of the families. She never understood the values of Atticus.
Atticus and Alexandra disagree about how to deal with the children. How does Atticus handle the situation?
He tells the children to listen to Alexandria.
Describe Jem and Scout’s relationship through these chapters as Jem matures.
As they grow up they seem to separate from one another because Scout resents Jem’s telling her what to do. They are still close and work together when it comes to their pride.
Why did Dill run away from home back to Maycomb?
He had every thing a boy could want, but his parents didn’t spend any time with him.
