Chapter 3 summary
Jack can’t find the pig with his spear
Only Simon helps Ralph with the huts
Jack only cares about hunting
Some young children are having nightmares
Ralph is annoyed that Jack won’t help, they bicker
They swim together but still don’t like each other
Simon helps pick fruit for the litleuns
Simon appreciated nature alone in the jungle
Chapter 4 summary
They enjoy life on the island
They see what piggy calls mirages on the water

The litleuns get diarrhea from the fruit
Roger and Maurice stomp on the sandcastles

Jack is obsessed with hunting and paints his face

Chapter 5 summary
Ralph is annoyed at his long hair
Ralph tells the group off about breaking rules
Ralph, Jack and Piggy deny the existance of the beast
A litleun says he saw the beast coming from the sea
Jack says he will kill it if it does exist
Most boys run away after taunting Piggy
Ralph doesn’t want to use the conch too much
Chapter 6 summary
Sam and Eric fall asleep while watching the fire
There is a dogfight above and a dead parachutist falls onto the mountain. His shadow is ominous
The twins report to Ralph what they saw and that they were assaulted. A meeting is called and they hunt for it with spears. Ralph is the only one brave enough to explore a cave and then Jack joins. They work together and the others are playing.
Chapter 7 summary
Simon reassures Ralph that he will get home. Ralph and the hunters follow droppings leading to a large boat. Ralph gets excited about hunting. It escapes but Robert plays the boar in the reinactment. They gat carried away and he almost dies. Robert, Ralph and Jack climb the mountain but Jack goes up to the summit where he claims to have seen the beast.
Chapter 8 summary
Jack calls a meeting and storms off after the boys refuse to remove Ralph as leader like he suggests. Piggy builds a new fire with Ralph to help his new found depression. Other children are joining Jack. Jack’s tribe savagely kill a beast and Roger pushes a spear up its anus. They leave its head on the spear as an offering to the beast. The tribe steal burning sticks from Ralph’s tribe but say that they can join the feast. Simon returns and sees the pigs head with flies swarming around it. He hallucinates and imagines it says Lord of the flies, that he will never escape and it will have some ‘fun’ with him. He faints.
Chapter 9 summary
In a daze, Simon walks up the hill and discovers that the beast is really the parachutist. He vomits at the corpse and untangle it from the parachord. He stumbles towards Jack to explain. Ralph and Piggy join the feast and Jack is on a throne treating the boys as his servents. Jack persuades most of Ralph’s followers to join him and they do a rain dance to warn away the storm as they have no shelters. They do not recognise Simon crawling towards them and tear him apart. Simon and the corpse wash out to sea
Chapter 10 summary
Jack’s tribe is based at Castle Rock. Ralph and Piggy feel deeply ashamed of their actions but piggy calls it an accident. Jack says the beast took Simon’s form and is never truly dead. Boys get beaten under his rule. Ralph is plagued with nightmares but awakes as Jack, Roger and Maurice raid their camp. They beat Ralph’s tribe badly and steal the glasses.
Chapter 11 summary
Ralph’s tribe cannot light a fire and Piggy can’t see. They travel to castle rock and the guards throw stones near the to scare them away. Jack returns from hunting and the two fight. Sam and Eric get tied up. Piggy shouts to stop them and Roger throws a stone at them. Ralph dodges but it shatters the conch and knocks piggy of the mountainside. Ralph escaped but they torture the twins.
Chapter 12 summary
Ralph is upset at the deaths and loss of civilisation. He finds the sow’s head, knocks it to the ground and takes the spear as a weapon. He finds the twins on guard and they give him food. One twin was tortured for Ralph’s location and they fail to remove him so Jack tries to smoke him out by burning the forest. Chased by the hunters, he collapses onto the beach in front of a naval vessel. The officer saw the flames.he turns his back so they can regain their composure after Ralph and a few other sob.
