Militia
A small army made up of ordinary citizens.
Rebel
A person who rises in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler.
Repeal
To take back, or to cancel, a law.
Liberty
The freedom of a citizen.
Boycott
Withdraw from commercial or social relations with a country, organization, or person as a punishment or protest.
Loyalists
People in the colonies, who wanted the colonist to remain under the control of the king and Great Britain.
Neutralist
An American colonist who did not support either side, loyalist or patriot in the fight for independence from Great Britain.
Patriots
People in the colonies who won a little break away from Great Britain.
Traitor
Person guilty of acting against his or her own country.
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress convened in Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, between September 5 and October 26, 1774. Delegates from twelve of Britain’s thirteen American colonies met to discuss America’s future under growing British aggression.
American Revolution/Revolutionary War
The war between the American called me and Great Britain from 1775-1783 (revolutionary means completely new and different) American revolutionaries one in independence and a new and different government.
