Chapters 1-5 Flashcards
Engine Co’s Should Designate a Member to Perform Forcible Entry in the Event That the assigned Ladder Co is delayed.
Immediately after Roll Call the Co Officer accompanied by the ECC should inspect & Examine the unit’s Apparatus.
Following the Roll call, all Engine Co FF’s shall Examine the Apparatus hose bed to familiarize themselves w/ the manner in which the hose is packed or folded. This is particularly important for detailed, overtime, or other than regularly assigned members
The most Important tools Engine Co FF's use on the Fire ground are: Serviceable Hydrants Engine Apparatus Hose & Fittings Nozzles
All Engine Co FF’s Should be able to perform What Functions..??
Transfer the engine from “Road” to “Pumps”
Connect Engine to a Hydrant using each of the several connections available and standard hose
Charge & maintain adequate pressure on a hose line using the pump panel controls
True or false..:Solid Streaam tip (MST) is useful for high volume flows w long reach superior and reduced nozzle reaction. It is required for Standpipe Ops due to its effective performace at low pressures.
True
What is Fog Tip Effective For..??
For Ventilation, Fires near Energized electrical equipment & dispersing vapors at Gas Leaks
When is the Time to Critique a Fire or Emergency..??
Immediately upon return from a fire or Emergency is the best time to conduct a critique or review of the operation. What each member of the company did & why they did it can be discussed & examined
True or False CFR-D responses may not require complete donning of protective equipment
True
With the exception of a Fire Building located at the End Of a Narrow dead end road, The ladder Co should normally allow the engine Co. to enter the bloock First. this is to insure that both units don’t impede Ea others operation…Another Exception can be Found in AUC 200 Winter Ops
AUC 200 Where a Building involved is Higher than 3 stories, preference shall be give to ladder Co. apparatus entering block First w/ the engine Co. personnel hand stretching from the nearest hydrant if necessary. Where building involved is 3 stories or less, preference shall be given to the Engine Co. Apparatus entering block first w/ ladder co. personnel carrying portable ladders.
Whenever possible, the following guidelines should be followed; Only 2 handlines should be operated from a pumper.
The supply pumper in a relay operation should not supply any large handlines or large caliber streams.
The pumper supplying a large caliber stream should not supply any handlines or additional large caliber streams.
If an emergency requires exceeding the above guidelines, the supply or operating pumper shall be augmented as soon as possible to ensure that positive water is maintained and the I.C. notified.
Most fire operations employ an offensive strategy which emphasizes the rapid stretching of hoselines for an aggressive interior attack on the seat of the fire.
A defensive strategy may be employed, initially, at large or expanding fire operations where protection of exposures or containment of the fire is critical. Emphasis is placed on developing large water flows.
Actions that the officer of the first arriving engine company can implement to protect endangered occupants include:
Give verbal instructions and assurances to the occupants.
Close doors to limit the spread of smoke.
Ensure that incoming units are informed of the location of endangered occupants.
The 3 stages of fire suppression are:
the exact location of the fire must be determined, this is the first stage of the fire suppression effort. Confining and controlling a fire is the 2nd stage of the fire suppression effort.
Extinguishment is the 3rd stage of the fire suppression effort.
What is the traditional fire development curve? What are the stages?
Incipient Growth Fully Developed Decay I Got F D....
What is the progression of modern content fires?
Incipient
Ventilation Limited
Early Decay
A More Rapid and Intense 2nd Growth (If Additional Oxygen Admitted)
Ventilation Induced Flashover Transitioning to Fully Developed
2nd Decay
What are warning signs of a potential backdraft?
Reversal if air, pulling smoke back into a smoke filled opening. Glass windows stained with smoke condensation and pulsating from the pressure of the fire.
Color of smoke varies according to the materials burning and the make-up of the flammable gases that are being produced .
What are the colors of the backdraft?
Dense black smoke indicates the lack of oxygen and large quantities of free carbon and carbon monoxide gas.
Other colors of smoke associated with a backdraft are dirty brown, yellow brown, and grey yellow.
Properly trained firefighters should be able to perform the following tactics without the officers personal supervision.
Hose estimate and removal from the apparatus. Positioning the apparatus at a serviceable hydrant.
Connection of the apparatus to a hydrant.
Stretching the hoseline.
Supplying booster water if ordered.
Operation of apparatus mounted large caliber stream (LCS) device.
Supplying standpipe and sprinkler systems.
B I R D Tactics that ECC's must be capable of performing include: Back Stretch In-Line pumping (ILP) Relaying water Drafting
