What is safety?
The state of being relatively free from harm, danger, injury, or damage.
What is risk?
A measure of both the likelihood and the consequences of all hazards of an activity or condition.
State the charter of safety management.
Safety is implemented as a line responsibility with the people making the widgets. Safety, as a task, must clearly be the function of the line.
Safety organization is a staff function that provides assistance/advice to the line in their effort to comply.
What is a safety policy?
A broad statement outlining an organizational commitment to safety.
What is an organization?
Structure of authority and activity relationships using resources at hand to meet objectives.
What are the four functions of management?
- planning
- organizing
- measuring information
- using that info/data to persuade an organization to move in a specific direction
What is a safety program?
A broad set of plans and policies addressing the safety goals of an organization
What is a plan?
A documented strategy for getting something accomplished. It may or may not be implemented.
What is a project?
An undertaking to complete a specific task or goal.
It has a beginning and an end.
What is project management?
The discipline of planning, organizing, and managing resources to successfully complete project goals and objectives.
What are the challenges of project management?
- Achieving project goals and objectives
- Adhering to project constraints (scope, quality, time, and budget)
What is a Gantt chart and how does it work?
- A bar chart illustrating a project schedule
- Uses a work breakdown structure to detail the start and finish dates of terminal elements

Responsibility:
A duty to perform (can be shared)
Accountability:
A duty to perform and justify decisions and performance (cannot be shared)

Incongruence Theory:
Disconnect between mature workers and organizational characteristics.
eg. mature workers prefer self direction, but theory says the current traditional org structure does not promote that.
Talk about HERZBERG’S MOTIVATION HYGIENE THEORY.
There are 5 hygiene/satisfaction factors:
- money, status, relationship w manager, company policies, and working conditions
- satisfaction factors are NOT long term.
There are 5 motivation factors:
- achievement, recognition, enjoyment of work, possibility of promotion, and responsibility.
- motivation factors ARE LONG TERM.
