Chapter7 The OutSiders Flashcards
What is the extent of Johnny’s injuries? How are the boys able to get the doctor to tell them of Johnny’s prognosis?
Johnny’s back was broken, he was in severe shock, & suffering from third-degree burns.
What does Ponyboy mean when he says “If? Please, no, I thought. Please not ‘if’.”
Ponyboy means that he doesn’t want the fact of Johnny living being a possibility; he wants him to survive and recover.
Explain the reference to chocolate cake.
The chocolate cake is for breakfast because the boys like it and Soda and Pony talked Darry into it.
Why do the Curtis boys always leave their door unlocked?
Darry, SodaPop, and Ponyboy leave their door unlocked every night just in case anyone gets mad at their parents they stay the night.
What does the newspaper say about the “heroes”? What does Two-Bit have to say about the wording the reporters chose?
The newspapers talk about how they saved the kids from the fire. Two-Bit says they were always heroes they didn’t ‘turn’ all of a sudden
Describe what Soda is doing while the police are trying to interview Ponyboy.
Soda was playing around. He was taking the interviewers’ hats & cameras, then he interviewed nurses and copied( or mimicked) the reporters.
What happened to Soda’s girlfriend, Sandy? Why?
Sandy either had to marry Soda or go to Florida and her parents didn’t want her marrying at 16.
To what is Pony referring to when he says “ …it’s about time for those guys from the state to come by and check up on us.”?
Ponyboy means people like child services are supposed to check on them every once in awhile to see if they are doing good and if SodaPop and Ponyboy should be in a boy’s home.
Briefly describe the conversation between Randy and Ponyboy
Randy talks to Pony about how good of a guy Robert (or Bob) was, how his parents would blame themselves for the wrong things he’d do, how Robert just wanted someone to tell him ‘no’, and why Randy isn’t going to the rumble.
From their discussion, what did you learn about the privileged class to which the Socs belong? How do you think some people come to feel entitlement?
I learned that the Socs could do something to the Greasers and not get in trouble because they are first class citizens and are taken more seriously than the Greasers.
Randy says, “You get little money and the whole world hates you.” Pony replies, “No, you hate the whole world.” Which of these statements,in your opinion,is true? Explain your answer.
I believe what Pony says is more true than what Randy says. This is because Randy and the Socs are really the only people who hate Greasers.
