chapter2 Flashcards
what is a DC or domain controller
domain controller is a server on which active directory is installed
what is a AD or active directory + explanation
active directory is a database where we can keep track of users, groups, passwords and settings
Web servers, apps, database servers,… use this central database to authenticate people and to determine what they can and can not do
Without DNS there is no AD possible
explain a organizational unit or OU
organizational units are a way to organize users, groups, computer accounts into folders, these have a special function
We can attach group policies to these OUs
A group policy will pass software, settings, restrictions to the users who are member of the OU
what is a LDAP path
An LDAP path is a unique identifier that describes the location of an object (like a user or group) within an LDAP directory such as an AD
Different types of networks and there differences
NAT = default setting for virtual box
Features: each vm gets the same ip, vms cannot connect to each other because of the same ip, vms have internet access
Internal = features: each vm gets its own virtual network card, each virtual network card can be connected to other vms that have the same network setting, vms do not have internet access and do not have access to the LAN network that your host system is connected to
Network bridged = each vm gets its own virtual network card, each virtual network card can be connected to other vms that have the same network setting, vms have internet access and have access to the LAN network that your host system is connected to
magic setting that the wizard does not change and needs to be changed for the installation of AD
On the domain controller set in the TCP/IP settings preffered dns to 127.0.0.1
