Chapter1- Cells Flashcards
Mitosis
Cell division resulting in two identical cells
Diploid cells
A cell with 46 chromosomes
Haploid cells
A cell with 23 chromosomes
Asexual
No fusion of gametes
Specialised cells
A cell with a specific function and adaptation
Differentiation
The process cells go through to become specialised
The 3 stages plants go through as they grow
1) division
2) Elongation
3) differentiation
Why are xylem cells good at there job
It has a thick strengthened cell wall with a hollow middle to allow water to pass through
- Interphase
The DNA in the cell is copied as are sub cellular parts
- prophase
The membrane around the nucleus brakes down
3.metaphase
The chromosomes line up in the middle of the dna
- Anaphase
The chromosomes split and move away from each other
- Telophase
The chromosomes arrive at the end of the cell and the membranes around each nucleus start to form again
- Cytokinesis
The cytoplasm of the cell is separated as a cell membrane divides the cell into two daughter cells
Why is the red blood cell specialised to its function
Large surface area for oxygen to pass through
