What is articulatory phonetics?
The study of the physical processes involved in the production of speech sounds.
What is the airstream mechanism?
That from which the air used in speech starts, and which direction it is travelling in.
What is the vocal cord state?
Refers to the vibration, determining voicing.
What is the state of the velum?
If the velum is raised, the sound will be nasal. If the velum is lowered, the sound will be oral.
How are speech sounds created?
The volume and direction of the flow of air is modified using various parts of the respiratory system.
What are the active articulators in the oral tract?
The lower lip and tongue
What are the passive articulators in the oral tract?
The upper surfaces of the oral tract
