Attorney-Client Privilege
Privilege protecting confidential communications between attorney and client in the process of providing and/or requesting legal advice
Conflict of Interest
Occurs when counsel has duties to two or more clients with opposing interests
Disqualification of Counsel
Order preventing representation by counsel because of conflict of interest
Conflict of Interest Check
Review of incoming matters to determine whether conflicts of interest may preclude representation
Costs
Out-of-pocket expenditures in reasonable prosecution or defense of the litigation
Attorneys’ Fees
Money paid to the attorney for his time
Prevailing Party
Entitled to recover a reasonable amount of costa necessarily incurred in the litigation

Litigation that benefits the public or a large group of persons
Retainer
Advance payment of attorneys’ fees and costs
Trust Account
Law Firm bank account for moneys not earned by the firm
Lien
Claim against a judgment by a third party
